Sudbury Mining Week 2005

Sudbury Mining Week 2005 was celebrated in style from May 8th-14th, 2005.
As an annual event with activities for every age, Sudbury Mining Week aims to promote mining and its importance to the economy and culture of Northern Ontario. This community event is sponsored and organized by the public and private sectors, government, educational institutions and individuals.

    • 3rd Prize - Jeffrey Hudson - Chelmsford Valley District CS
    • Innovation Prize - Elizabeth Smith & Jenna Howard - Chelmsford Valley District CS

  • Path of Discover Tours - Schools had a chance to win a free Path of Discovery tour, sponsored by the CIM Sudbury Branch. Seventeen schools submitted a mining related quiz and five schools were selected as winners. The Path of Discovery tours left from Dynamic Earth and passed through the heart of the City of Greater Sudbury, leading through Inco Ltd.'s Ontario Division mining operations. The history of the city and the evolution of the Sudbury mining complex were outlined along the bus tour. Stops included: Frood-Stobie complex open pit (one of the three original operating mines from 1887-present), and the Superstack. The various processes involved in transforming rocks to riches were outlined.The winning schools were:
    • Levack Public School - Grade 5/6
    • MacLeod Public School - Grade 8
    • St. Francis School - Grade 8
    • Ecole St Pierre - Grade 8
    • Espanola High School - Grade 9 (geology)
