Sustainability

Over the years, MIRARCO has found ways to give back to the community through research, fundraising and outreach efforts.

Environment

Environment

MIRARCO is constantly seeking ways to make mining more environmentally sustainable. Through our biofuels project, we are looking at ways to remediate mine tailings, while producing biofuel feedstock from plants that are inedible. MIRARCO is also pursuing research into the global warming phenomenon.

Community Support

MIRARCO helps to develop the Community of Practice website. The purpose of the site is to bring together government people (e.g. policy, planners, politicians), and experts (researchers, scientists), and other practitioners to share information about climate change adaptation, so that all jurisdictions across the country can incorporate the shared information & tools into their policies and planning. The client is the Council of the Federation.
International Impact

International Impact

MIRARCO's workforce is culturally diverse with staff hailing from all parts of the globe. We recruit international students and professionals in the fields of mining, engineering, geomechanics, chemistry, biology and computer science. Our global reach is also shown through the international work we do with academia and industry. Technology transfer has taken place through the many Virtual Reality Laboratories (VRL) we have installed. Two recent examples are the VRLs sold to Chinese clients, one for Northeastern University and the other for the Xuzhou Mining Group.
