MIRARCO partnering with LU, Bruce Power on nuclear power option
A Sudbury-based research corporation has signed a $1-million agreement to look into the potential of small nuclear reactors.
Small modular reactors, or SMRs, could generate clean, lowcost and reliable electricity in rural and remote regions, its advocates say.
Bruce Power, Mining Innovation Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation, and Laurentian University have signed the five-year deal. The agreement will create an industrial chair position at MIRARCO Mining Innovation. The industrial chair will help highlight opportunities in sustainable and clean energy solutions in the North, bringing an enhanced perspective to the university’s current research. MIRARCO Mining Innovations is already working with Laurentian on sustainable energy solutions in mining and remote communities.
